MEMBER INSURERS

The North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (Coastal Property Insurance Pool), is ready to partner with you as you adjust this Named Storm event claims for your Policyholders with Windstorm and Hail Only policies written through the Association. Your efforts are critical to ensure that claims are handled efficiently and effectively for the Policyholders in North Carolina.

We have communicated to Producers indicating that claims from this Named Storm event written on Windstorm and Hail Only policies will be handled by the Member Insurer in accordance with North Carolina General Statute 58-45-35(e), and that Producers should confirm workflow with each Member Insurer.

General Reminders:

  • An Open Claim Report is available for each Member Insurer during Named Storm(s) . This report can be accessed through the Member Insurer login on our Dynamic Web. This report shows losses reported to the Association and assigned for claims adjustment to an individual Member Insurer. This report is updated daily with losses remaining on this report until they are closed. If your company does not have access to this report, please contact Bruce Lee at (919) 744-2666.
  • If the Association receives a Windstorm and Hail Only claim directly from a Policyholder, the Association will forward a copy of the First Notice of Loss to the Member Insurer.
  • If a Producer or Policyholder submits a claim directly to a Member Insurer for a Windstorm and Hail Only policy, it is important that the Member Insurer or Producer report the claim to the Association through the Dynamic Web.

Claims Handling Instructions for Windstorm and Hail Only Policies

Claims from the Named Storm event written on Windstorm and Hail Only policies will be handled by the Member Insurer. The North Carolina General Statute 58-45-35(e) requires Member Insurers to handle claims on policies where the Member Insurer writes the underlying essential property coverage and the NCIUA provides Windstorm and Hail Only coverage.

Producers should confirm workflow with each Member Insurer. If a Producer or Policyholder submits a claim directly to a Member Insurer for a Windstorm and Hail Only policy, it is important that the Member Insurer or Producer report the claim to the Association through the Dynamic Web.

If acceptable with the Member Insurer, Producers may submit the First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web and forward a copy to the Member Insurer for Windstorm and Hail Only policies.

Claims Handling Instructions for Full Peril Policies Only

Losses on Full Peril policies must be reported to the Associations. The Dynamic Web allows for easy entry of claim and provides an immediate First Notice of Loss. Producers with Claims Assignment Authority can immediately assign a claim to an Approved Independent Adjuster. You will be asked to identify the chosen Adjuster during the claim reporting process. Please do not add your request to the description field.

Premium Payments:

The Associations anticipate that Producers and Policyholders may need assistance with premium payments. Please remember that premium payments may be made using our website. If the Insured has trouble with our website, payments may be made by calling 1.800.662.7048 FREE. Payments cannot be accepted on cancelled policies until after storm restrictions have been lifted.

The Associations will announce separately if the Direct Adjuster Assignment Authority is approved for Producers due to a specific severe weather event. If Direct Adjuster Assignment Authority is announced, you will be asked to identify the chosen Adjuster during the claims reporting process. Please do not add your request to the description field.

Hurricane Arthur

CLAIM HANDLING FOR PRODUCERS
MEMBER INSURERS HANDLED CLAIMS FOR THIS EVENT

The Associations, North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (NCIUA, Coastal Property Insurance Pool) and the North Carolina Joint Underwriting Association (NCJUA, FAIR Plan), are ready to help you and your policyholders in the aftermath of Hurricane Arthur. The Association will be open during the holiday weekend - Friday, July 4th, Saturday, July 5th, and Sunday, July 6th.

Claims Handling Instructions for Windstorm and Hail Only Policies

Claims from Hurricane Arthur written on Windstorm and Hail Only policies will be handled by the Member Insurer. The North Carolina General Statute 58-45-35(e) requires Member Insurers to handle claims on policies where the Member Insurer writes the underlying essential property coverage and the NCIUA provides Windstorm and Hail Only coverage.

Producers should confirm workflow with each Member Insurer. If a Producer or Policyholder submits a claim directly to a Member Insurer for a Windstorm and Hail Only policy, it is important that the Member Insurer or Producer report the claim to the Associations through the Dynamic Web.

April Storm System

CLAIM HANDLING FOR PRODUCERS
MEMBER INSURERS WILL NOT BE HANDLING CLAIMS FOR THIS EVENT

The wind, hail and tornado events in April were not considered a named storm. Therefore, the Associations will be handling ALL claims for this event - Full-Peril and Windstorm and Hail Only. Please submit all losses to the NCJUA/NCIUA for handling and adjuster assignment.


 2013 Activity and Announcements

Storm System (November 26, 2013 and November 27, 2013)

CLAIM HANDLING FOR PRODUCERS
MEMBER COMPANIES WILL NOT BE HANDLING CLAIMS FOR THIS EVENT

The November 26, 2013 and November 27, 2013 Storm System was not a named storm. Therefore, the Associations will be handling ALL claims for this event - Full-Peril and Windstorm and Hail Only.

Full-Peril policies:

  • Producers with Claims Assignment Authority approved for 2012 or 2013 should submit the First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web and directly assign the claim to a NCIUA or NCJUA approved Independent Adjuster.
  • Producers without Claims Assignment Authority should submit First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web.

Windstorm and Hail Only Policies:

  • Producers should submit the First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web, and the Association will assign an Adjuster.


NCJUA-NCIUA does not provide Flood Insurance

The June 13, 2013 Storm System was not a named storm. Therefore, the Associations will be handling ALL claims for this event - Full-Peril and Windstorm and Hail Only...

Full-Peril policies:

  • Producers with Claims Assignment Authority approved for 2012 or 2013 should submit the First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web and directly assign the claim to a NCIUA or NCJUA approved Independent Adjuster.
  • Producers without Claims Assignment Authority should submit First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web.

Windstorm and Hail Only Policies:

  • Producers should submit the First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web, and the Association will assign an Adjuster.


Named Storm Andrea (June 6, 2013)

CLAIM HANDLING FOR MEMBER COMPANIES AND PRODUCERS

For named storm events, North Carolina General Statute 58-45-35(e) requires Member Companies to handle claims on policies where the Member Company writes the underlying essential property coverage and the NCIUA provides Windstorm and Hail Only coverage...

Therefore, claims from Hurricane Andrea on Windstorm and Hail Only policies will be handled by the Member Company.

Producers may submit the First Notice of Loss through the Dynamic Web and forward a copy of the First Notice of Loss, which includes Coverage Confirmation to the Member Company for Windstorm and Hail Only policies.

If an Insured submits a claim directly to a Member Company for a Windstorm and Hail Only policy, the Member Company may report the claim to the NCIUA through the Dynamic Web.

The Associations' CAT Fee Schedule will apply to any loss settled in this event by a Member Company.

Member Companies may retrieve through the Dynamic Web:

  • Open Claims Reports
  • First Notice of Loss, which includes Coverage Confirmation

For Full-Peril policies:
